Shoot Preparation & FAQ’s

Once you’ve made booked in your shoot, here are some things to keep in mind. These are all just recommendations; it is your shoot and you should always do what makes you feel the most comfortable and what you think will obtain you the best results.

Things to consider

  • When you’re getting ready for your headshot session with me, I’d suggest bringing along a good mix of clothing options so we can find the perfect look together. Go for outfits that fit well and really show off who you are - after all, you know your style better than anyone else! Warmer tones and neutral colours tend to look great on camera and work very well with the selection of backdrops available, giving a natural, flattering vibe. Pick clothes that feel interesting and true to you, but nothing too over the top that might take the focus away from you. Most importantly, wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, that’s what really shines through in your photos.

  • When it comes to your hair for your headshot session, there are a few tips to keep in mind to help you look your best. It’s best not to get a haircut or colour the day of or the day before your shoot; giving it about a week allows your hair to settle naturally and gives time to fix anything if needed. Feel free to bring along any hair products or brushes you might like to use during the session. I’ve got straighteners and a hairdryer available if you need them. You’re more than welcome to change your hairstyle during the shoot, whether that’s popping your hair up into a ponytail, switching your parting, or even going for a complete restyle; just remember this will take a bit of time from your session. Also, be mindful of the weather on your way here, as wind or rain can play tricks on even the best hair day!

  • For headshots, especially those used for castings and agents, light, natural makeup works best. Think subtle and true to you - just enough to enhance your features without looking overdone. It's important that foundation and concealer match your skin tone closely, so there’s no noticeable difference between your face and body. The goal is a clean, polished look that still feels like you

  • Jewellery and accessories are absolutely welcome! They can be a great way to add a personal touch and elevate your look, so feel free to plan them as part of your outfit. A favourite pair of earrings, a subtle necklace, or a bold statement piece can all help reflect your style and personality. That said, there’s no pressure to wear any jewellery at all - the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourself

  • Facial hair is totally welcome - whether it’s a full beard, stubble, or clean-shaven! If you’d like to capture both looks, you’re more than welcome to shave partway through the session. Just keep in mind that this will take a bit of time out of your shoot, so it's good to plan accordingly. Either way, we’ll make sure you leave with a great set of images that show your range.

  • You may arrive up to 15 mins early to allow time to settle in and. Arriving any earlier than this will result in being asked to come back later or possible not seen to if a shoot is ongoing.

  • Not sure how to pose? No worries at all - that’s what I’m here for! I’ll help guide you through everything, from positioning to expression, so you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. The session is relaxed and fun, with music playing to help you feel at ease. It's a calm environment where we’ll work together to get natural, flattering shots that feel like you

  • The shoot will typically start with you being welcomed into the studio and made comfortable. You’ll be shown to where you can get changed and and given a chance to hang up your clothing options and give them a quick steam if you wish (yes a steamer is available at your shoot)

Once you’ve settled in we’ll choose your first look and work our way through the backdrop and the clothing you brought with you.

During the shoot you’ll have as opportunities to change or ask questions if need be.

I do my best to make my shoots as friendly and a relaxed environment as possible. Headshots can be a stressful process and I like to make my shoots an enjoyable experience. I always have music playing thoughout the shoot (feel free to put in requests).

Once the shoot has finished, you’ll be given time to pack up and ask any questions you might have about the shoot.
